This isn't strictly correct. Most minor league clubs are not owned by
major league clubs. They enter into affiliation contracts with major
league clubs. The major league affiliate provides the players and
other on-field personnel such as coaches. There is an off-season

Of course not. Pro/rel is the only way to run a league for sporting
purposes, while a closed system is a cartel.
With basball though you'd have an additional problem: the minor league
