It's the total number of days with 90+ weather, James.
Anyhoo, I agree with what you are leading up to.
One summer does not a trend make.
Still, for whatever reason, things they are a-changing.

The theory being that a new car will be more environmentally friendly that
the old clunkers.
But I suspect this is all more to the economy than going "Green".

Tread warily is sound advice.
Oz is an example of what happens when well meaning people seek to control
the environment, rather the palnts and animals in that environment.
I would expect when the hue and cry dies down, sound scientifc research as
to what is really going on can proceed unimpeded.

I really thought Akins would never show his face in here again.
Guess I was wrong.

The only thing complaining right now are my feet...I've managed
to get the watermelon/lemon base for the drinks made (seltzer
and vodka to be added tomorrow), the cashews are cooling, the
cheese is coming up to room temperature so it's workable, the
strawberries are hulled and the water for the peaches is on the

Pasta was a Northern African invention I believe, although elongated
noodles probably came from China.

Yabbut ... yabbut ... this is where you are supposed to feel sorry for Rush

Well we certainly can't stop using fossil fuels or even develop
alternatives. Perhaps we should threaten some more scientists, that
always works.

True but then would you like to speculate why the temp had been dropping
for the previous 30 years? About the same amount of coal being burnt and a
growing population. It's just got to be big oil....

So the answer is that it's not that unusual for late July/August, but
you've had it since June?

Governments have the same motivation. They go out if their way to give
special incentives to new car manufacturers and when there is an economic
slowdown, they pay you to dump an old car so that you can buy a shiny new
one.
All this 'green' talk is window dressing and a revenue cow.

Not so much "lacking ... forsight to judge actions and consequences", but
simply not caring IMHO. The ego is such that individuals tend to want to be
right while proving the other wrong. A nice compromise would be "let's
agree to disagree on this", but how often does *that* happen?
